Common Questions

How many people can come on a fishing charter?

Inshore and nearshore charters are for 1 to 3 anglers. DIY beach trips are for 1 to 2 anglers, and a third can join for $75. Leisure boat rides take up to 4 passengers.

Do I need to bring my own fishing gear?

No. Saltwater fly rods, reels and flies are on the boat, along with top-tier spinning and conventional gear if you would rather not fly fish.

I have never fly fished. Can I still book?

Yes. Trips are set up for every skill level. If you want to fly fish from the boat, most beginners take at least two one-hour casting lessons on land at Johnson's Beach first, and many are most prepared after three.

What should I bring?

High-SPF sunscreen (reef-safe is best), polarized sunglasses, a hat and light UV clothing, a rain jacket and pants, boat-friendly shoes with grip, drinks and snacks, and a phone or camera. A cooler with ice is provided. Flats boots help if you want to wade.

Can you provide lunch?

Yes. Lunch and snacks can be added for $25 per person.

What fish can we catch around Perdido Key?

Redfish, speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, pompano and jacks are the more common species inshore and nearshore, with the occasional tarpon. Seasonal and roaming fish keep every trip different.

Can we stay and fish from the same place?

Yes. Terrapin Lodge sits on the canal with a private dock, so charters can leave from the backyard. It sleeps up to 16 and is a few minutes from the Flora-Bama.
